how to not lose your magical connection during depression
Hi love!
I am going to be experimenting with answering your questions every week (or more)!
So here goes…
Question From The Community:
“How to not lose my magical / universal connection during a bout of severe depression. I know I should be using it most here, I however seem to turn further away at times of crisis.”
Here's my Answer…
Fuck.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!
It all sucks.
It all sucked.
So, * ahem *... I know a thing or two about depression that we keep on the DL and I even have my own personal brand of it too...
I am not excempt.
As a teacher, I probably got all these great lessons that help me translate it for others.
I dunno.
Anyways, sometimes depression hits quick and then becomes quick to never leaving and us forgetting who we are and what's important.
For one reason or another depression comes and lingers for longer than is liked, it sucks you in and down and drowns you in your own self (or lack of self if you haven’t had the chance to work with your self before).
I want you to know a couple of things first.
1. Depression is not your fault, and —
2. It can be TRANSCENDED.
(… I would even go as far as to lump anxiety in there as well — because anxiety can be thanked and released repeatedly until it disappears completely. But for now I will stick with depression as what we are talking about…)
What depression is, is simply a sign.
Depression is a sign that you are hurting and that you need to acknowledge that hurt.
It requires you to look directly at the pain, acknowledge that hurt and asks you to finally gain the resolve and WILLINGNESS to dig yourself OUT of it.
Because you really can be HAPPY again, and feel like YOU again.
So, how to dig yourself out of it?
Ask yourself this…
What you are living for (or willing to)?
What you are loving for (or willing to)?
Are you willing to stop ignoring your soul as your guide?
Do you know you're worth it?
Because being responsible with your mental health, having the resolve to do the work and taking the next steps each day in the little things, the responsible things and take care of yourself.
Doing all that requires strength.
It takes strength.
Which, wouldn’t you know it, that strength doesn’t go away.
It becomes yours for real.
You become strong.
And depression never really had you, it was just that you thought and believed that it did.
You just thought you were trapped and believed that things could never be the same again.
It causes worry, anxiety and fear.
Well, you were wrong, you were never trapped and the truth is things could get better.
And different.
You just have to see things differently.
Besides, when you take into account and always remember this fact…
God goes with you, wherever you go.
So talk to god / spirit all the time — assume some one is listening. ;)
Spirit is your sounding board and guide and will always show you the way through ANYTHING.
Even this.
Depression is just a challenge and check point — that comes before levelling up.
It’s the one about strength. ;)
So pause and breathe.
Take as many deep breaths as you can to ground yourself into the present moment where you are finally just allowing things to be AS THEY ARE so that you can move on.
While doing these deep breaths, forget about worries and anxieties, just for this moment.
And ask god to help you see things differently.
Because miracles come when you see things differently.
Because seeing things differently is what bring miracles (better and different than you thought it could be) to you.
Now depression just becomes simply the level you’re secretly (or not so secretly) working on.
It’s where you are.
It’s what you need to get through.
Here’s a story from my course Magical Rituals (from lesson and day 20)…
There is a famous story about Milarepa, the Tibetan cave dwelling yogi. One day Milarepa left his cave to gather firewood, and when he returned he found that his cave had been taken over by demons. There were demons everywhere! His first thought upon seeing them was, “I have got to get rid of them!” He lunges toward them, chasing after them, trying forcefully to get them out of his cave. But the demons are completely unfazed. In fact, the more he chases them, the more comfortable and settled-in they seem to be. Realizing that his efforts to run them out have failed miserably, Milarepa opted for a new approach and decides to teach them the dharma. If chasing them out won’t work, then maybe hearing the teachings will change their minds and get them to go. So he takes his seat and begins teaching about existence and nonexistence, compassion and kindness, the nature of impermanence. After a while he looks around and realizes all the demons are still there. They simply stare at him with their huge bulging eyes; not a single one is leaving. At this point Milarepa lets out a deep breath of surrender, knowing now that these demons will not be manipulated into leaving and that maybe he has something to learn from them. He looks deeply into the eyes of each demon and bows, saying, “It looks like we’re going to be here together. I open myself to whatever you have to teach me.” In that moment all the demons but one disappear. One huge and especially fierce demon, with flaring nostrils and dripping fangs, is still there. So Milarepa lets go even further. Stepping over to the largest demon, he offers himself completely, holding nothing back. “Eat me if you wish.” He places his head in the demon’s mouth, and at that moment the largest demon bows low and dissolves into space. Instead of cursing them, he welcomes them and invited them to devour him. Upon hearing this they all disappeared.
Stay tuned for the next one, I may just keep this q and a going because I know a lot of you have had some questions and want answers.
I'm ready.
Are you ready and do you want to channel your own inner strength and power?
Love and strength,
Tara xx
